About the Light World Tour

Light World Tour is a competition offering a person with a passion for lighting the opportunity to travel the world for three months (September thru November 2011) to find the most inspirational lighting installations & designs and share their findings in a blog, photos and videos. 

Key dates and activities:

June 1st – August 8th  - Sign up to Light World Tour and Vote

  • Sign up to the competition by visiting the sign up page and completing at least paper (max two) providing background about related experience and perspectives and inspirations for the tour.
     
  • Vote for your favorite candidate and share your preferences for the inspiration locations.  Entrants will be showcased to allow visitors to vote and share on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Each Facebook like, LinkedIn share and Tweet counts as a vote and every shared link to a candidate’s (using the exact and full URL) profile page on your Facebook page counts as another vote. You can vote for as many candidates as you like, there are 3 ways a vote can be cast per candidate (via Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter). To make sure that it's a fair compeition, candidates will only be able to vote for themselves once.  

    The top 10 will be put through to the final judging.  Fans can also vote for the locations on the tour by visiting the Inspirations page. These votes will be taken into consideration when finalizing the itinerary of Light World Tour. Please note that there is no guarantee that a certain destination will become part of the itinerary, despite the number of votes cast for that location.

August 11th 2011 – Judging

  • The top 10 candidates will be assessed by an esteemed jury chaired by Rogier van der Heide, Chief Design Officer & VP, Philips Lighting.
     
  • The preferences for the inspiration locations will be reviewed by the judges and they will decide upon the final Light World Tour itinerary.

Tips and Tricks

The Light World Tour team encourages entrants and fans to share news of the Light World Tour. Here are a few tricks for promoting your entry:

  • Blogs and websites: write posts and stream to your LinkedIn profile; place a banner on your blog or website.  Visi the banner page for the details and code
     
  • Facebook and LinkedIn:  post status updates on your Facebook wall and LinkedIn profile and ask your friends and connections to vote for you
     
  • Twitter: add the hashtag #LightWT to your tweets and post #FF on Fridays to @PhilipsLight – the official Philips Lighting twitter account that will provide updates on Light World Tour. Ask your followers to vote for you
     
  • YouTube: create a video on your entry, a short intro, your lighting inspirations and post this to your YouTube channel

The only way to get official votes is by using the social sharing options on the Light World Tour site. All other additional social buzz won’t count as an official vote but will help to get people to the voting page and will be greatly appreciated by the entrants.
